The myG7.ca site is an online application powered by OpenText™. It allows users see how the 2018 G7 themes are resonating with G7 countries (Canada, France, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy). The application provides unique insight into what the public and media think about some of the key themes of Canada’s G7 Presidency.
How It Works
OpenText Magellan collects online news articles and tweets about the G7 from the top online news sources and Twitter feeds worldwide.
Magellan automatically crawls the web for G7-focused articles and tweets, and retrieves the raw text for evaluation.
Magellan examines the raw data and this determines sentiment.
Summaries of the news data are designed and displayed using Magellan's rich and interactive data in a dynamic and visual way.
The visuals are seamlessly embedded into the myG7.ca interface using Magellan's dashboard features.
Users can enjoy interactive graphics that let them explore the news coverage, reveal interesting patterns such as how coverage or tone varies from source to source or over time, and gain unique insights.
Only data from publicly available platform is collected. It is subject to the terms and conditions of the providers.
OpenText and the Government of Canada will not store data or use it for any other purpose.
How We Determined Sentiment
Magellan uses powerful, proprietary methods to assess, identify and analyse the context, the subjectivity and tone of a text. ("Subjectivity" refers to the factual or editorial nature of the document or tweet and "tone" refers to the positive, negative or neutral mood found.)
